The Pink Pillar

Child Care & Academic Advocacy

School is one of the first things to fall apart when a family is in crisis, and one of the hardest to pick back up. We help with both ends of that: making sure children are cared for and heard inside the school system, and making sure adults who left school early have a real way back.

For children and teens

Parents, guardians, grandparents, kinship caregivers, and teens themselves.

  • Finding child careWorking out what is available locally and what you may qualify for.
  • Understanding an IEPWhat the evaluation means, what the school is offering, and what it leaves out.
  • Preparing for school meetingsWhat to ask, what to bring, and what you are entitled to request.
  • Finding a tutorExtra help in the subject that is sinking a grade.
  • Planning a campus tourMapping a route that takes in five colleges or trade schools, picked around what they actually want to do.

For adults going back

Anyone who left school early, or is starting something new.

  • Finishing a diplomaEnrolling at the Adult High School and staying enrolled once you do.
  • FAFSA paperworkFor college or trade school, including the parts that stop most people.
  • Choosing a directionTrade certificates count. A CDL or a welding ticket is a real answer.
  • Finding a tutorFor the class standing between you and finishing.
  • Staying with itThe first semester is the one people quit. We check in.
When money or equipment is the thing in the way. We have covered enrollment costs so someone could start, we help with the technology the coursework requires, and depending on what our funding allows at the time, we may be able to put scholarship money toward it. We are a small volunteer foundation, so none of this is guaranteed, but we would rather you ask than assume the answer is no. Ask early, before a deadline passes.

There is no application and no intake form. Tell us where you are stuck and we will work out the next step with you.
